Guide students in academic writing.

The use of academic language in writing is essential for students. The writing process may not help students if they do not understand the pragmatics of the language. This becomes more difficult for students when trying to understand their audience. English does not have a “formal voice” such as Spanish, German and many other languages, which makes writing more difficult for ELLs. By helping students understand academic writing in small steps, their writing most certainly will improve. STELLAR uses a multitude of writing ideas that engage students such as Dinah Zike’s “Foldables” and notetaking strategies.
